Measuring ceiling fan blades to replace them in their brackets includes the size of the fan blades from tip to tip when fully assembled. An even number of blades requires measuring two opposite blades from tip to tip. An odd number of blades, such as a five-blade fan, requires a center point to make an accurate measurement to determine the diameter of the blades for proper replacement.
Instructions
1. Turn the ceiling fan off and wait for it to quit turning.
2. Measure the ceiling fan from the tip end of one blade to the tip end of the blade directly across from it, using a measuring tape. This is the diameter of the fan area and the size of the fan blade.
3. Measure a five-blade ceiling fan from the tip on one blade to the center of the fan. Double this measurement to obtain the fan blade size. A five-blade fan does not have blades directly each other as a four-blade ceiling fan does.
