Airplane Ceiling Fan Instructions

Airplane ceiling fans often are modeled after warplanes.

Installing a new ceiling fan can be a fun project to brighten up any room. Airplane ceiling fans add a special quirk that show a bit of the homeowner's personality. These unique fans often look like the nose end of an airplane with propellers instead of standard fan blades. Perfect for the aspiring aviator in your life, airplane-ceiling fans are not difficult to install. With concentration and attention to detail, you may put one of these fans in your home without too much hassle.

Instructions

Installing the New Fan

1. Turn off all power to the wall supply, both at the wall switch and at the circuit breaker. Do not touch live wires. If there is already a ceiling fan in place, disassemble it.

2. Check to make sure the placement of the fan is at least 30 inches from any obstructions and at least 7 feet off the floor. The last thing you want is for the fan to hit someone in the head while in motion.

3. Locate your mounting bracket and "J" hook in your ceiling fan kit. Screw the "J" hook into the ceiling plate for secondary support. Secure the mounting plate to the outlet box with the screws and washers provided in your kit. The arrows on your mounting plate should align with where you want the cowling of your fan to face. If you are not mounting to an outlet box, use wood screws to mount directly to a beam or joist.

4. Hang the fan motor/housing onto the hook positioned in the mounting plate.

5. Connect the fan wires to the ceiling wires, matching color to color (e.g. white with white, green with green). Wire connectors (caps) should be provided in your kit. If a blue wire is present, connect the wire to the black wire along with the other black wire. After all connections are secure, turn the connectors upwards and gently push them into the outlet box with blue and black wires on one side and green and white on the other.

6. Attach the safety cable in the case to the "J" hook that was previously installed in the outlet box for added support. Secure this cable by looping a zip tie provided in your kit through the cable and "J" hook and tightening it.

7. Line up the arrows on the mounting plate with the arrows on the inner body of the housing. The arrows should look as if they are facing one another. Push the outer housing up and twist clockwise approximately half of an inch, setting it into the mounting bracket. Secure the outer housing to the mounting bracket with outer housing screws.

8. Position the blade of the fan underneath the blade arms so that the fan blade is closer to the floor. Align the screw holes and insert the blade screws through the fan blade and into the blade arm. Make sure the blade screws are tightened securely. Repeat with all other fan blades.

9. Install the glass nose by gently lifting the glass to the fan and turning the glass clockwise until it is firmly in place. Handle with care to avoid breaking the glass.

10. Turn back on the power from the circuit breaker and wall outlet to see your new fan in action.
