Replace An Lg Ceiling Fan Switch

A large ceiling fan has the same switch as most other fans.

Ceiling fans in packages or lists of model numbers are sometimes categorized by their size. LG stands for a large ceiling fan, one that is rated to move the air in a 20- foot by 20-foot room. Fans do not need special switches, although there are different kinds of switches available including a three way switch, in which two switches control the fan, a standard on or off switch, or even a dimmer switch for the light. Despite these different categories, the process for replacing the large ceiling fan switch is nearly the same

Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the switch you wish to change by flipping the breaker controlling the switch's circuit to off.

2. Remove the screws mounting the faceplate to the switch. Set the faceplate aside.

3. Remove the two screws holding the switch to the junction box it is installed to in the wall. Do not yet pull out the switch for the wires from the house are still attached to it.

4. Loosen the screws on the side of the switch and unwind the wires attached to those screws. Tab the wires with multicolored tape to indicate which one is neutral, hot and ground if they are not labeled already. Green or bare is normally ground, white is neutral and black is hot.

5. Install the replacement ceiling fan switch into the mounting box in the wall by closing the terminal screws over the appropriate wires and screwing the new switch into the mounting box. Replace the cover plate, turn your power back on, and turn the ceiling fan switch to on.
