Install Ceiling Speakers & Stereos

By following the below steps, you can install a stereo system such as a home theater, or just a standard stereo receiver and speakers, in a ceiling. Typically, when speakers are mounted in the ceiling, the receiver is located in an easily accessible location such as a cabinet, closet or wall.

Instructions

1. Decide where the speakers will go. If a basement has drywall on the ceiling, use a stud finder to see where beams, if any, are located in the ceiling.

2. Use a pencil to mark on the ceiling where the speakers will go. Cut a pattern the size of the opening that is needed out of cardboard and trace that on the ceiling.

3. Use a drill to make a small hole in the ceiling for the hacksaw blade. Cut an opening in the ceiling by following the pencil outline.

4. Place the stereo receiver on a shelf or near other electronic equipment that is being used for a home theater.

5. Run speaker wire from the receiver to the area where the speakers are going to be located. Access the attic or crawl space to lay the wire so that it will reach the opening in the ceiling.

6. Connect the wire to the speaker, then mount it to the ceiling. Use a drill to start a pilot hole in the ceiling or beam for a screw.

7. Place a screw through the provided mounting hole in the speaker or bracket and then tighten with a screwdriver.

8. Connect the speaker wire to the proper terminals on the receiver and then turn it on to see if the speakers are working properly.
