Touristy Things To Do In New York

Manhattan skyline is a must-see.

Just mention New York City and people all over the world get excited. The definition of "bright lights, big city," New York is teeming with things to see and do. If you've never visited the Big Apple, there are some attractions, iconic to the city, that must not be missed. Add a walk through Times Square and a Broadway show and you're well on your way to being a New Yorker.

Empire State Building

A trip up the Empire State Building is an important New York stop.

The view from the top of New York's tallest building is well-worth the trip. To avoid the crowds, try coming first thing in the morning or during lunch and dinner. If your pockets are deep, you can also splurge on the significantly more expensive "express pass" to bypass the crowds. Movie fans won't want to miss the display of Fay Wray's private collection of "King Kong" memorabilia in the lobby.

Lady Liberty is iconic to New York. Her solemn face and lifted torch have welcomed millions to U.S. shores since 1886. Today you can tour inside the famous statue and get a peek at its structure through a glass ceiling, or linger on her crown for a sweeping view of Manhattan. Visitors adding on a trip to the crown should prepare to ascend and descend 354 steps.

Brooklyn

Cross the famed Brooklyn Bridge to visit one of New York's trendiest boroughs.

One of New York's prettiest boroughs, a trip to Brooklyn is great way to spend an afternoon in New York. Stroll the 52-acre Brooklyn Botanic Garden, with its tranquil promenade of cherry trees, or eat at the garden's tasty Terrace Cafe, which serves sustainable food. If you're looking for a more local lunch or dinner, try Grimaldi's Pizzeria, one of New Yorkers' favorite spots for coal-oven baked pizzas.
