Remove A Hampton Bay Fan

Uninstalling a Hampton Bay ceiling fan is a simple DIY project.

The wide popularity of Hampton Bay ceiling fans comes from their quality construction and unique designs. During a remodeling project or just giving a room a fresh painting, uninstalling a Hampton Bay ceiling fan may be part of the room preparation. The procedure for removal is far less complicated that the initial installation and easily completed in just a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Turn the power off at the main breaker panel to the ceiling fixture location.

2. Loosen the screws securing the ceiling canopy cover with the appropriate screwdriver. Have a helper support the weight of the fan motor.

3. Rotate the ceiling canopy counterclockwise slightly to release the canopy from the mounting plate screws and lower the fan to expose the ceiling mounting plate.

4. Suspend the ceiling fan by hanging the canopy housing from the small hook on the mounting plate.

5. Pull the electrical wires down and out of the ceiling electrical box and spread them apart.

6. Disconnect the black (hot) wire between the fan and the electrical box, then twist the wire nut onto the black wire from the ceiling as a precaution against a short or shock. Add a small strip of electrical tape if the wire nut is too loose.

7. Repeat Step 6 for the white (neutral) and green (ground) wires.

8. Unhook the canopy housing from the mounting plate hook and remove the fan.
