Decorate a Tin Ceiling
Tin ceilings are a wonderful addition to any home. They are even more beautiful when they are decorated with a painted finish. Painting ceiling tiles also enhances the pattern of the tiles. Here are the steps on decorate a tin ceiling with paint.
Instructions
1. Purchase an aluminum paneled tin ceiling that comes ready to paint with an etch primer finish.
2. Choose the colors for your decorated tin ceiling. Choose colors from the room and adjoining rooms. Try to stick with light colors as a darkly painted ceiling will make the room seem small and dark.
3. Paint your base (main) color on the ceiling tiles being sure to get paint evenly coated in all the grooves and indentations. Allow the base coat to dry.
4. second (accent) color lightly over the tiles with a short nap roller. Use a semi dry brush as you only want paint to touch the raised surfaces of the tile pattern. This gives more dimensions to the tile.
5. Paint your third (accent) color with a paintbrush to accent textures and designs in the stamped tile. You can use more colors if you wish, but the more colors you use, the more intricate the work will be. Adding too much detail can also make the room seem overwhelming and busy. If your ceiling is being installed on a tall ceiling, great detail is very appropriate.
