Use Tongue & Groove on Ceiling
Vaulted ceilings give any room drama and scale with their soaring height and curve. What can add to the drama of the vaulted is tongue and groove on the ceiling. The finish of the wood can tie everything together and give it elegance.
Instructions
1. Find the center of the vaulted ceiling. A stud finder will help you with this task. Snap a line with the chalk line from the point where the rafter passes from one intersecting roof to another.
2. Finish or stain all the tongue and groove lumber with a brush. After one side dries, turn it over, and do the same to the other side of the wood. Do not neglect to stain the tongues and grooves as well.
3. Use a table saw to cut the back of the first board, so it matches the vaulted ceiling's curve. Cut off a little at a time until you're satisfied with the fit; then continue.
4. Start at the edge of one side, and set the tongue and groove board in place, so groove is against the the edge of the ceiling and the wall. Use a nail gun to blind nail through the tongue at a 45-degree angle into the wood beneath.
5. Fit the next board over the tongue of the first, and blind nail it in place. Continue until you reach the other side of the ceiling. Hide any holes with wood putty.
