Install A Four Tube Fluorescent Light In A Floating Ceiling

Fluorescent lights are a staple of many commercial buildings and are usually used in concert with suspended or floating ceilings. The newest types of fluorescent lights are sold prewired and ready to hang. All that needs to be done is to make the connection from the power source to the leads of the fixture.

Instructions

1. Turn off electric supply from the breaker box. Remove the ceiling panel. Locate the electrical outlet box that the fixture will be connected to. Verify the power is turned off by placing the probe of the voltage indicator on the wires of the electrical outlet box. If the voltage indicator lights up, electricity is running through the system. Go back to the service panel and ensure the correct breaker was tripped and power is shut off to the outlet box.

2. Measure the distance between the the cross beams surrounding the removed ceiling panel. Cut a 2-by-4 to this measurement and nail it to the cross beams. Screw the fixture to the 2-by-4 using the screws included with the fixture.

3. Open the outlet box. Find the white and black wires. Undo the wire nuts. Strip the insulation from the ends of the wire from the fixture. Connect the white wires from the fixture to the white wire in the outlet. Connect the black wire in the fixture to the black wire in the outlet box. Reattach the wire nuts and recover the outlet box. Install the diffuser panel to cover the fluorescent light fixture.
