Hunter Ceiling Fan Standard Downrod Installation

Downrods are used to adapt the Hunter ceiling fan to hang on a sloped ceiling and when your ceiling is higher than 8 feet. The downrod is necessary to bring the fan blades down to a height between 7 and 8 feet off the floor to feel the air movement produced by the ceiling fan. Downrods are available in lengths of 12 inches to 72 inches to accommodate ceiling fan installations on ceiling heights between 9 and 15 feet. Proper installation of a Hunter ceiling fan downrod is required to keep the fan from falling from the hanging bracket.

Instructions

1. Place the ceiling fan canopy on top of the Hunter ceiling fan motor. The canopy is bowl shaped and designed to cover the mounting bracket once you install the ceiling fan.

2. Feed the Hunter ceiling fan wires through the downrod. Loosen the set screw on the side of the downrod adapter on top of the ceiling fan motor.

3. Insert the downrod into the adapter. Some Hunter ceiling fan models require you to screw the downrod into the adapter while other models require that the downrod slip into the adapter. Tighten the set screw to hold the downrod in the adapter using an adjustable wrench.

4. Slide the hanger ball onto the downrod with the curved side facing the Hunter fan motor. Insert the steel pin through the two small holes on each side of the downrod. Pull up on the hanger ball until it is flush with the top of the downrod, holding the steel pin in place. Tighten the set screw on the hanger ball to hold the ball to the top of the downrod.
