Install A Register Vent Booster In The Ceiling

Register boosters are electric powered vents that look very similar to floor and ceiling air registers for central air conditioning systems. These units contain an internal fan and simply slide into the existing vent opening in the ceiling. When turned on, the fan helps to distribute cool air flow better than a standard ceiling vent cover. Installing the vent booster in the ceiling requires drilling the appropriate holes and connecting the electrical supply.

Instructions

1. Place a stepladder under the ceiling register that you want to install the vent booster in. Climb up until you can easily touch the ceiling with both hands. Locate the two screws on either side of the vent cover and remove them using a screwdriver. Pull the vent cover away from the ceiling and place it in storage.

2. Hold the vent booster up to the ceiling and push it into the hole. Draw a small marker dot on the locations of the booster edges that cover the screw hole locations.

3. Remove the vent booster from the ceiling and place it face down on a table. Don safety glasses and insert a 3/16-inch diameter bit into a hand drill. Drill each marked location to create a hole all the way through the housing.

4. Insert the AC adaptor plug into the outlet on the side or base of the register.

5. Push the vent booster back up into the vent opening, aligning the screw holes with those in the ceiling vent opening. Insert the screws provided with the vent booster into each hole until tight using the screwdriver.

6. Insert the electrical plug into the nearest electrical outlet. If the outlet is too far away, plug the vent booster cord into an extension cord and plug the extension cord into the electrical outlet.

7. Secure the wire to the ceiling by covering it with a cord cover. Measure the length of cover required using a tape measure and cut it to size using a hacksaw. Peel off the protective backing and press the adhesive onto the ceiling. Open the center groove and insert the vent booster wire into it. If desired, you can install an additional cord cover on the wall if the electrical outlet is near the bottom of the wall.
