Paint Ceiling Light Globes

Paint a light globe.

Ceiling light globes generally come in the same white or glass finish. Painting a ceiling light globe is a great way to brighten or liven up your ceiling light globes. Whether you choose to paint your light globes a bright yellow or a soft blue, you will need to choose a heat-resistant spray paint. Because you are painting glass, you will also need to make sure that the paint adheres to a high gloss surface and will still allow light to pass through when the light is in place.

Instructions

1. Turn off the light switch to the light globe. This will allow the globe to cool off before you remove it. You do not need to completely turn off the power to the light because you are only removing the light globe.

2. Unscrew the light globe from the light fixture with a screwdriver. Set aside the screws for future use.

3. Wash the light globe inside and out. Use dish soap and warm water to wash away dirt, dust, bugs or other debris from the light globe. Rinse and allow the globe to dry completely.

4. Lay down newspaper or a dropcloth in a well-ventilated area. Place the light globe on the dropcloth.

5. Hold the heat-resistant spray paint approximately 8 to 12 inches away from the light globe (or as the manufacturer recommends). Spray several light coats of the paint onto the light globe. Allow each coat of paint to dry before applying the next coat of paint. Let the light globe dry overnight.

6. Replace the light globe in the light fixture by screwing it into place.
