Make Designs With Plaster On The Ceiling

Adding plaster designs to a ceiling can add drama to a room.

A plain ceiling is something that simply is not noticed by people visiting your home. And for most homeowners, a ceiling that attracts no attention is just fine. But for others, adding design to a ceiling is a good way to add drama and style to any room. One of the best ways to add style to your ceiling is by adding pre-made deocrative plaster pieces in a pattern of your own design.

Instructions

1. Decide what kind of design you would like to add to your ceiling. There are a wide range of pre-made plaster pieces available at your local hardware store. They range from simple pieces used for borders to elaborate medallions.

2. Buy the plaster pieces at your local store. Consider buying a few extra pieces just in case you want to add to your design. Save your receipt so you can return any unused pieces.

3. Sketch directly onto the ceiling where the pieces will go and measure if necessary to ensure a symmetrical pattern.

4. Spread a small amount of plaster putty or compound on the back of the first piece of plaster you will affix to the ceiling. Press it into place and hold it for at least one minute. Repeat the process with each piece until your design is complete.

5. Let the pieces dry overnight. Check for any gaps between the plaster pieces and the ceiling. These gaps will be readily apparent. Fill the gaps with plaster putty.
