Texture Your Ceiling In Different Styles With A Textured Roller

Add character to your walls with a variety of textured paint rollers.

Paint rollers come in a variety of textures. Rollers made from sea sponge can add a light, porous texture, while shag or long-nap rollers create a dense, layered look. The next time you will be painting several ceilings, switch between different types of rollers to give each room a unique and personal look.

Instructions

1. Select which texture you wish to apply to your ceiling. If the room receives lots of light, the thick texture of a shag roller will allow for interesting shadows and patterns. If the room is darker, a sponge roller's porous texture will open up the room visually.

2. Open any available windows, as paint fumes can make you feel lightheaded. Put on your gloves. Mask any parts of the ceiling that should not be painted (ceiling fans, vents) with painter's tape.

3. Push the roller of your choice onto the rotating metal head of the roller handle. Attach a wooden handle extension if necessary.

4. Place a plastic pan insert into your metal pan. Inserts let you switch between paint colors quickly and easily.

5. Pour a generous portion of paint into the pan. Cover your roller with a coat of paint.

6. Roll the paint onto the ceiling, starting with a small test area. Take a look at the texture and decide if you wish to continue with the roller style you have chosen.

7. Finish painting the ceiling. Allow it to dry for 2 hours, then apply a second coat using the same roller style.

8. Swap roller styles and use a fresh pan insert before you begin painting another ceiling.
