Install A Porch Ceiling

Install a Porch Ceiling

Installing a porch ceiling adds a nice touch to a part of the house made for outdoor relaxing. There are different kinds of porch ceilings, including basic plywood, beadboard and tongue-and-groove. Installing a porch ceiling using plywood can be a simple process if you know what you are doing and have the necessary tools--and a helper. Doing this project yourself can save you a lot of money.

Instructions

1. Measure the porch ceiling, using the tape measure. Check all four corners of the porch to see if they are square by using the carpenter's square.

2. Place a full sheet of plywood up in the corner that is the most square, using the stepladders and another person to help. Starting on the highest part of the ceiling, attach the plywood with the Phillips-head deck screws, using the drill and drill bit. .

3. Work around the porch, hanging adjacent full sheets of plywood and making them as snug as possible.

4. Measure the areas of the porch ceiling where there is no plywood. Use the carpenter's square to check angles. Cut the plywood with the circular saw and have another person on a stepladder to help you put the plywood up on the porch ceiling, attaching it as you did the other pieces.

5. Cut the tip on the tube of caulk with the carpenter's knife. Fill the caulking gun with the tube of caulk. Fill in the seams of the plywood with the caulk. Take a trowel and smooth it out. Now you are ready to prime and paint your new porch ceiling.
