Replace Acrylic Dropped Ceiling Tiles From The Seventies

Replace outdated acrylic panels with regular ceiling panels.

Acrylic drop-ceiling panels were often used underneath florescent lighting to help light the room. Lighting style has come a long way since the 1970s, when these panels were common. Many homeowners now wish to replace their outdated acrylic panels with regular ceiling tile panels and either install recessed lighting or use floor lamps to light the space. Remove the florescent lighting fixtures, rework the electrical wiring and determine where you will install recessed lights before you replace the acrylic drop ceiling tiles with regular ones.

Instructions

1. Set up a ladder beneath the acrylic drop ceiling panel.

2. Lift the acrylic panel off the grid. Tilt it up slightly to navigate it through the space and carefully lower it through the grid opening. Set it on the floor.

3. Angle a ceiling tile to fit it through the grid's opening. Straighten out the tile and lower it straight down, onto the grid. Repeat for other tiles in the ceiling.
