Job Assistant Safety & Training In The Glazing Field

Glaziers measure, cut and install windows.


Glaziers measure, cut and install many types of glass. They are usually skilled in installing glass in skylights, store fronts, building fronts, table tops, interior walls and ceilings. As of February, 2011, the national average salary for glaziers is $38,192, based on figures from Salary.com.








National Glass Association


The National Glass Association is the main association for glaziers or job assistants. This organization provides over 150 training courses, including safety training.


On-the-Job Training


Individuals in the glazing field receive training through hands-on work experience. The individuals are hired by contractors to work as job assistants to experienced or expert glaziers.








Apprenticeships


Employers offer up to three years of paid, classroom training for entry-level glaziers or job assistants. Job assistants can take three stages of examinations offered by the National Glass Association to become certified. The exam is typically taken after training is complete. Other job assistants advance to become journeymen.
