Hunter Grand Vista Ceiling Fan Instructions

The Hunter Grand Vista is a ceiling fan equipped with five distressed walnut or black walnut blades and a light fixture featuring three candelabra bulbs. Installation and assembly of the fan may be a time consuming process and will require a certain degree of comfort working with power tools inside the home.

Installation

When choosing a location for your Hunter Grand Vista ceiling fan, it is important to select a room that meets certain criteria. The ceiling should be at least eight feet high, allowing the fan blades seven feet of clearance from the floor. Choose a spot directly beneath a joist capable of holding the weight of the fan and the outlet box (alternatively, you can install a 2" x 4" support brace between two joists); the hole for the fan should be approximately four inches in diameter.

Use wood screws to attach a 4" x 1-1/2" UL-approved octagonal outlet box to the joist or support brace; ensure that the bottom of the box is slightly recessed into the ceiling. Turn off the circuit breakers and power switch for the room in which you're working and thread roughly six inches of supply line through the outlet box; attach the line to the box. Thread the supply line through the fan's hanger bracket. Use washers and three-inch screws to secure the bracket to the support beam (align the slotted holes on the bracket with the outlet box's outermost holes; it may help to drill guide holes first).

Feed the supply line through the fan's downrod, then insert the downrod through the canopy; slide the canopy ring over the canopy. Loosen the screw located on the side of the fan's adapter to allow you to install the assembled pieces; tighten the screw afterward. Lift the end of the downrod into the hanger bracket and rotate the fan until you feel it snap into place.

Affix the power supply wires to the similarly-colored wires in the fan (white connects to white, green connects to green, etc.). The exception is the black wire; if connecting to a dual switch, affix the power supply's black wire to that of the fan's, then connect the fan's black-and-white wire to ungrounded wire that corresponds to the wall switch. For a single switch, affix both the fan's black-and-white and black wires to the single black wire leading to the power supply. Place wire connectors over the ends of all the matched wires, then twist the connectors until properly tightened; there should be no unconnected or exposed wire ends after installation.

Insert the canopy screws into the hanger bracket and screw them partially into place.

Align the holes on the rim of the canopy with the screws and twist the canopy clockwise to lock it in place; tighten the canopy screws. Lift the canopy ring up until it is flush with the base of the canopy and twist it clockwise until it locks. Attach the fan blades to the fan (the process varies depending on the type of blade, but is generally straightforward).

Screw two mounting screws into the holes on the underside of the fan assembly. Feed the plug connector through the switch housing, then mount the housing onto the two screws. Twist the housing until the screws slide into the narrow notches, then insert a third screw into the remaining hole. Tighten all three screws. Connect the plug from the fan to that on the fan's light fixture. Lift the fixture onto the fan and screw it securely into place using the three holes on its rim.

Install candelabra bulbs (60 Watt) into the light fixture. Thread both the light and fan pull chains through the glass bowl, then thread the fan chain through the hole in the side of the cover plate and the light chain through the plate's bottom hole. Lift the glass bowl and cover plate onto the threaded rod protruding from the bottom of the fan. Feed the light chain through the finial, then screw the finial onto the threaded rod, securing the glass bowl and cover plate in place. Attach the extra pull chains onto the fan and light chain and installation is complete.

Operation

The Hunter Grand Vista comes with five speed settings; from slowest to fastest, these settings are: "Off," "Serenity Speed," "Low," "Medium" and "High." You can adjust the fan's current speed setting by tugging on the fan's chain; avoid pulling too hard, as this will cause the chain to come apart at a special breakaway point. Each tug of the chain will increase fan speed until it resets to the "Off" setting.
