Close A Ceiling Vent

Homeowners may sometimes need to control the temperature of a room when it is too cold or too hot compared to the rest of the house. Closing a ceiling vent will prevent the flow of air from a forced air heating or cooling system into the room. The vent covers, the portion of the vent visible in the room, commonly have a control mechanism that allows the vent to be partially or fully closed.

Instructions

1. Use a stepladder or step stool to reach the ceiling vent. Locate the control device on the vent cover. This may be a switch on the side of the vent or a control dial at the center.

2. Turn a control dial to the left to close the vent. Dials are generally found on square or round vents. Turn it to the right to open it again.

3. Move the switch down if it is a rectangular vent. The switch can be found on either side of the vent. Move the switch up to open it again.
