Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan Instructions

Harbor Breeze Ceiling Fan Instructions

Harbor Breeze is one of the top manufacturers of ceiling fans, and is known for kits that are designed so they can be installed by homeowners. This is only the case, however, if you're installing the fan to an existing ceiling electrical box (in place of an existing ceiling light or fan, for example). The fan will run off the same wall switch that the previous fixture did. Make sure the electrical box is solid and doesn't move when you pull on it. If the box is loose, have a contractor inspect it before continuing.

Instructions

1. Turn off the electricity to the existing ceiling fixture at the circuit box. Test to make sure it's off by operating the switch for the existing fixture.

2. Use your screwdriver to take out the screws holding the existing fixture to the ceiling. Lower the fixture enough to access the wiring. Touch an electrical current tester to the wire connections to ensure that there is no current. Disconnect the wiring and pull the fixture free, so that the wire ends are hanging from the ceiling. Remove the mounting bracket that was holding the fixture to the electrical box by taking out the screws.

3. Find the mounting bracket that came with the Harbor Breeze fan (it will be a round metal plate with an open space in the middle of it). Position the bracket on the electrical box and secure it there with the provided machine screws. Pull the exposed wire ends down through the middle of the bracket.

4. Walk the main body of the Harbor Breeze fan up the ladder, with the blades still unattached. Hang the fan unit off the hook on the bracket, which aligns with a small hole on the outer edge of the fan's ceiling canopy (the part that sits against the ceiling). The hook will hold the weight of the fan as it hangs sideways, so you can wire it.

5. Hold the white wire from the fan alongside the white wire from the house, with the two exposed ends side by side and facing in the same direction. Twist a wire nut over them. Do the same with the two black wires. If your model includes a light, there will also be a blue wire that you will connect with the two black wires, putting the wire nut over all three wires at once.

6. Twist the bare copper grounding wire from the electrical box onto the green grounding screw on the fan's bracket.

7. Take the fan housing off the hook and immediately raise it to the bracket. Secure the canopy to the bracket with the provided screws.

8. Install the fan blades using the screws and rubber washers that came with it. Turn the power on.
