Install Rockwool Batt Insulation On Basement Ceilings

A heavy-duty staple gun is a good tool to have for this job.

Rockwool insulation is made from naturally occurring mineral fibers. While not as commonly used as fiberglass insulation, it is still manufactured and used in some insulation applications. Rockwool insulation that's manufactured with a paper backing layer can be used in basement ceiling insulation jobs. It is somewhat heavier and a bit harder to handle than fiberglass insulation, but it is installed in virtually the same manner.

Instructions

1. Measure the length of the ceiling, measuring the strips between the joists. If the ceiling isn't a single rectangle, measure the lengths of the different strips between joists one at a time.

2. Put on a filter mask and work gloves. Rockwool insulation has no harmful materials, but it can get rather dusty during installation.

3. Roll out a length of insulation and cut it to the length you've measured.

4. Stuff the insulation, paper side down, in between the joists, starting at one end of the ceiling. Staple the paper tabs on either side of the roll to the inside edges of the joists as you go along. A staple every 6 to 8 inches is sufficient.

5. After the first strip is completed, cut and install the second, and so forth, until the ceiling is covered.
