Problems with the drain on a GE Triton XL dishwasher can leave water in the tub, a backup of water in the kitchen sink and even a leak if the drain cannot function normally. However, identifying the problem as a clog in the drain and cleaning out the drain can resolve the situation and help prevent future problems as well. Remember to always unplug the dishwasher from power before doing any maintenance, cleaning or repair tasks.
Instructions
1. Find the drain hose connection point to the dishwasher and unscrew the hose. Clean out the hose, including the inlet screen. Clean the inlet screen in the dishwasher as well. Tighten the drain hose back to the dishwasher.
2. Set the drain loop underneath the counter less than 18 inches from the floor. This will help prevent water from draining back into the dishwasher drain.
3. Remove the bottom dishwasher rack and check the drain pump on the bottom of the tub. Clean away any debris or residue that may be clogging the drain.
4. Remove the rear filter, using a spoon to help lift out the filter if necessary.
5. Inspect the piston and nut assembly under the rear filter. The assembly has an umbrella-shaped valve. Clean out the valve and make sure it can open and close freely.
6. Replace the rear filter and restore power.
7. Contact GE for a new valve if it was damaged or broken or if drain issues continue to occur. Reach GE by phone at 800-848-7620.
