Replace Valve Cover Gasket In A Kia Spectra

Sporting a comfortable and roomy interior, the Kia Spectra serves as a good companion for a commute. If you own a Kia Spectra, you already know that it is economical on gas and reliable in it's build. What you may not know is that the Spectra must be properly maintained. Replacing the valve cover gasket when the time arises is a great way to ensure the upkeep on your Kia Spectra.

Instructions

1. Locate a place to perform maintenance on the Kia Spectra. Some neighborhoods and apartment complexes ban this type of activity on the premises, so ensure that this is allowed prior to starting. Purchase your material prior to starting this maintenance.

2. Remove the cover from the battery. Disconnect the battery terminal from the battery post by using 1/2 inch wrench. Make sure that the wrench does not touch any body part of the vehicle while doing this as it may cause sparks.

3. Locate and disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs in firing order by numbering. Unplug and remove the ignition coil wires by squeezing the connectors to release. Disconnect the PCV valve plug and hose clamp.

4. Remove any wiring braces and hoses and set aside. Remove valve cover bolts and remove valve cover and old gasket. Using automotive engine cleaner, clean the gasket seating area and replace the old gasket with a new one. Clean around the heads before reinstalling the valve cover gasket.

5. Replace the valve cover and tighten the bolts in sequence. Replace the wiring braces and hoses. Reconnect the PCV Valve plug and hose clamp, the ignition coil wires and spark plug wires in firing order. Reconnect the battery. Fill the oil level and allow the car to run idle. Check for leaks.
