One of the more common problems with Eljer faucets, or any faucet for that matter, is leaking from the handle. Other issues are low rate of water flow and inconsistent temperature outputs. Each of these problems is repairable if you know change the faucet's cartridge. This part is a self-contained valve that opens hot and cold water inlets to create a final output temperature. By replacing this part, you update the faucet's valve system and fix leaks or performance issues.
Instructions
1. Shut off the water valves to the faucet located underneath the sink. Turn both hot and cold pipe valves clockwise completely.
2. Take off the cap from the top of the handle by lifting it up and away from the faucet. Turn the screw under this cap counterclockwise with an Allen wrench. Turn the base of the handle counterclockwise and remove the entire handle along with the base.
3. Rotate the cartridge counterclockwise to unscrew it from the faucet base and pull it out. Put a new faucet cartridge into the base and lock it in place by turning clockwise.
4. Replace the handle and turn the base to secure it. Install the handle screw in the top, tighten with an Allen wrench and replace the cap.
5. Repeat the steps to change the cartridge in the other handle if necessary. This is recommended if the other handle also leaks or if the faucet has performance issues like low water flow.
