A bunny costume
A bunny costume is a very easy and fun costume to make at home. For children, it is even easier to assemble than for adults, since child's pajamas are much easier to convert to a costume than adult clothing.
Sewing
For the crafty, sewing is the most professional way to make a bunny costume. A plain pair of fuzzy footed pajamas can serve as the body of the bunny, with pink and white being the most popular choices. If you can't find footed pajamas in the right color, try regular pajamas or even a matching sweatsuit. For the head, fashion a hood for the child. Cut felt or faux fur fabric to fit like a bonnet that can tie or button under the chin. Sew a seam around the perimeter and either wrap the fabric around the chin, or sew a piece of ribbon to the bottom of the hood for the chin tie. Make ears using the hooding material as the back and a pink silky material for the front. Attach a wire to the wrong side of the fabric and sew the two wrong sides together, leaving the bottoms of the ears open. Turn them right side out and sew them to the hood. You can bend the ears a little or keep them straight up as you prefer. Sew an extra large pompom to the bottom of the pajamas for the tail. Wear a pair of matching sneakers over the feet for walking outside, and a pair of matching gloves. Use face paint to paint the child's nose pink and add white or black whiskers.
No Sew
For a no-sew version of ears, you can use a headband as the base. Find a fabric that matches the pajamas, and pink for the inside of the ears. Any light material that won't bend the cardboard with its weight will work, but felt is a good choice since it does not require any seaming. Cut ears from cardboard and glue the felt or fabric to the cardboard, leaving about an inch of fabric hanging loose at the bottom. Use pink on the front and the other color you have chosen on the back, wrapping the back color around just a bit to the front if possible. Attach the ears to the headband by spreading glue on the backside of the fabric and wrapping it around the headband like a hug. For a girl, you can glue a little strip of pink fluff along the perimeter of the headband and add a little bow to the front of one ear.
Boys may prefer to use a hat instead of a headband. Find a baseball hat to match the pajamas and attach the fabric-covered ears to the top of the hat using safety pins.
For an even easier costume, check costume supply stores for an ear and tail package. Sometimes dollar stores will even have this simple accessory kit available over the Halloween or Easter season. Add in the pajamas and face makeup, and your bunny is complete.
