Remove Mold From A Sheetrock Ceiling

Remove Mold From a Sheetrock Ceiling

Mold on the ceiling almost always indicates a water leak. While a small bathroom with a lot of condensation can easily develop mold on the shower ceiling over time, most other ceiling mold forms from a pipe dripping moisture onto the ceiling surface, producing ideal conditions for mold growth. While outdoor surfaces can benefit from a power washing to remove mold growth, sheet rock ceilings don't lend themselves to this option. Fortunately, mold removal from a sheet rock ceiling is not difficult.

Instructions

1. Mix a three to one solution of warm water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. White vinegar is a powerful natural cleaning agent that is very effective for mold removal.

2. Spray the sheet rock ceiling with the water and vinegar mixture. You don't want to get the sheet rock too wet, so the spray bottle is useful in covering the mold with an easy-to-remove mist.

3. Scrub at the mold stains with a scrubbing sponge or brush. If you have trouble with stubborn mold that isn't coming off, try an undiluted application of white vinegar and let it sit for a minute before scrubbing.

4. Dry the sheet rock with a rag. The friction from the rag can also remove any remaining mildew.
