Paint is an easy way to enhance a double tray ceiling.
A single tray ceiling makes a strong statement in a room by drawing your eye up to note its architectural feature on what is ordinarily a flat surface. A double tray ceiling trumps the effect, giving homeowners double the opportunity to make the ceiling a focal point in a room. Tray ceilings are commonly found in new construction homes, and many are left in a neutral color. Make this fifth wall, as many designers call it, stand out with a special touch.
Instructions
1. Use paint to enhance the double tray ceiling. Consult a color wheel to create a color pattern that complements the existing color scheme in the room.
2. Apply a faux finishing technique, such as rag rolling or sponging, to each of the tray areas.
3. Create a pattern with stencils on the innermost tray and paint the outer tray with a complementary color.
4. Highlight the center of the with a decorative wall paper. Paint the outer tray with a color found in the wallpaper.
5. Add texture to the center tray ceiling with pressed tin panel sheets. Paint the sheets in a color that complements the room's décor.
6. Accent the area with a crown molding treatment. Add molding to the inner lip of each tray. Paint the molding in a neutral color and paint the flat surfaces of the tray the same color as the walls to draw attention to the molding.
