Standard speaker wire can be used to connect the SS-MB150H to a receiver.
The Sony SS-MB150H is a bookshelf stereo speaker with two terminals on the back panel for connection to an amplifier or receiver with speaker wire. The compact size (less than 10 inches tall, 7 1/4 inches deep and 6 5/8 inches wide) makes the speaker ideal for smaller rooms or for rear surround sounds in a home theater. Standard 18-gauge speaker wire can be used to connect the SS-MB150H at distances of up to 10 feet from the amp or receiver. Use thicker 16-gauge wire for runs of up to 20 feet.
Instructions
1. Set up the speakers on the left and right sides of the room in the desired location, at least 10 feet apart for best audio separation of the stereo sound.
2. Unspool and cut a length of from the back of each SS-MB150H speaker to the rear connection panel on the amp or receiver.
3. Peel off 1/2 an inch of plastic shielding from the two strands on each end of the speaker wire using the wire strippers. Twist the wire strands of the same color together to form two separate wires on each end. Speaker wires are typically coded in two colors, such as copper and silver, to aid with the connections.
4. Lift the plastic terminals on the rear of each SS-MB150H speaker to reveal two holes. Insert one wire into the hole below the positive (red) terminal and the other wire into the hole beneath the negative (black) terminal. Release the plastic terminals to hold the wires securely to the speaker.
5. Connect the wire from the positive terminal on each speaker to the positive terminal on the back of the amp or receiver, then connect the negative wire in the same manner. Be sure to hook up the wires from the left Sony speaker to the amp or receiver terminals labeled for the left speaker, then connect the wires from the right speaker to the terminals labeled for the right speaker.
