Make Window Treatments With A Bamboo Mat

Bamboo mats are a low cost and attractive window treatment option. Bamboo mats are great for covering windows where the view is less than attractive, or for screening excessive light from coming into a room. Use bamboo window treatments in any room with natural or neutral décor or anywhere you want to add designer touch on a budget.

Instructions

1. Choose your bamboo mat. Bamboo mats come in many shapes and sizes. Some have an attractive border and some are quite plain. Some types are easy to cut to size. Find a bamboo mat that fits your window if at all possible. It should fit just inside the frame, or it can be hung on the outside of the window frame. Should you have to cut the bamboo mat, Ehow.com has a great article you can use for instructions. See the resource section for the link.

2. Purchase a curtain rod to fit your window. A café rod is an attractive option for a treatment that is bigger than the window. Install the rod hardware according to instructions. This usually means marking the locations for the supports using a level and a pencil, then screwing the side supports into the wall.

3. Roll the top of the mat to make a tube big enough for the rod to go through. Run a bead of cement glue along the mat to close the tube. Allow the glue to dry. Put the rod through the mat and hang it.

4. Make the window treatment adjustable. Cut two lengths of wide ribbon twice the length of the shade plus a few inches. Hang each ribbon over the rod and adjust so the ends touch. Tie the ends of the ribbons at the height where you want the window treatment to fall. Roll the bottom of the shade so that it will easily roll or unroll as you lengthen or shorten the window treatment.
