Ceiling fans provide an affordable way to circulate and cool the air in your home. These appliances use less electricity than high-powered air conditioning units, and normally can be set on multiple speed settings, and reversible blade rotation direction. The blades of a ceiling fan become extremely dirty and covered with dust during everyday use. Properly cleaning and removing this layer of dust is essential for the fan to maintain proper balance. Without cleaning the blades, the fan may start to wobble excessively and create stress on the fan motor.
Instructions
1. Turn the ceiling fan off and allow the rotation of the blades to come to a complete stop. You may want to flip off the breaker switch that runs power to the room where the ceiling fan is located for added security.
2. Locate the screws on the blade bracket that secures them to the motor. There should be two or three screws holding them in place. Identify the type of screwdriver you'll need to remove the screws on your model of ceiling fan. Usually this is a Phillips-head screw.
3. Hold the blade in place with your hand and unscrew the blade from the motor. You may want to place a piece of tape marking the blade position if you think that you might not remember the correct blade placement.
