Make A Track Light Match The Ceiling

Track lights are an attractive and practical way to illuminate a room. These movable fixtures allow you to move the lights along a track and position them in the location of your choice. If you want the track-lighting system to blend in with your ceiling, painting it is the easiest solution.

Instructions

1. Turn off the circuit breaker for the track light. Remove the track-lighting system from the ceiling. Unscrew the places where it's attached. Undo the wiring by untwisting both the black and the white wires to free it from the ceiling.

2. Prepare the track-light system for painting by unscrewing the bulbs. Stuff the area that houses the light bulb with wads of newspaper. Cover any exposed metal on the wiring with a layer of painter's tape. Cover any additional areas of the lighting system that you don't wish to paint.

3. Cover a flat work surface with newspaper and place the track-light system on top. Spray on acrylic spray paint in a shade that matches your ceiling. Hold the nozzle approximately 12 inches away and move the can in a back-and-forth motion to ensure even paint coverage. Continue painting until the track-lighting system is the color of the ceiling. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours.

4. Reinstall the track-lighting system by reconnecting the wires. Match the black wires on the light to the black wires on the ceiling. Match the white wires on the light to the white wires on the ceiling. After twisting the wires, cover the points where the wires meet with electrical tape. Screw the track system back in place to complete the process.
