Ceiling fan
Ceiling fans are a great way to cut down on energy costs and cool your house efficiently. Lowe's Harbor Breeze line offers the consumer a wide array of styles to fit into any decor. When installing one of these fans, there are a number of different ways they can be wired to best fit your lifestyle needs.
Wiring Colors
The colors of the wires in the Harbor Breeze ceiling fan kits tell you what their functions are. The black wire is hot for the fan, the white is a common wire for both the fan and the light kit, green is ground and blue is hot for the light kit.
Fan and Light Controlled by Pull Switches
In this combination, the fan and the light are controlled separately by the pull switches that are attached. The light kit is attached to the fan unit by the white and blue wires. In the wiring box, the fan white wire is connected to the white wire and the black wire to the black wire. In addition, the blue wire is spliced into the black wire connection. Attach the ground wire to the mounting bracket. This configuration provides separate connections for the light and fan, so that one may be switched on without the other connection being live.
Fan Light Controlled by Switch, Motor by Pull Chain
If you have a light switch installed, run the black wires from that to the ceiling junction box over the fan. One end of this is attached to the blue wire from the fan motor. The other end of this black wire is spliced into a connection with the power coming from the circuit box and the black wire from the fan. Attach the white wire from the fan to the
Different Switches Controlling the Fan and Light
This configuration is the most complicated to setup and requires two light switches to be installed. Take the black set of wires and run it from one switch. One end is attached to the hot wire from the main circuit, the other runs to the junction box for the fan. From the other switch, run a separate set of wires. Wrap red colored electrical tape on the insulation to identify this circuit. One end of this wire goes into the junction box, while the other end is spliced into the black wire where it meets the main circuit from the first switch. In the junction box, attach the red and blue wires from the fan, the
