Lubricate A Hunter Conventional Fan

Hunter has manufactured ceiling fans since 1886. The Hunter Original conventional fan was developed at the beginning of the 20th century and is still manufactured. Made of cast-iron and weighing nearly 60 pounds, the Hunter Original motor is larger than any other ceiling fan's. The Hunter Original is the only Hunter ceiling fan that requires an oil-bath lubrication. Your Hunter Original conventional ceiling fan requires lubrication when first installed and after moving the fan to a new location.

Instructions

1. Place a 90 degree bend in a pipe cleaner 1/2-inch from the end. Slightly curve the pipe cleaner beneath the bend to allow the 90 degree bend on the pipe cleaner to reach the oil reservoir in the Hunter ceiling fan.

2. Insert the pipe cleaner into the opening between the top of the switch housing and below the fan motor. The switch housing holds the fan reverse switch and the ceiling fan pull chain.

3. Remove the pipe cleaner and check it for oil. The absence of oil indicates that you need to lubricate your Hunter fan.

4. Spread newspapers over the floor beneath your Hunter ceiling fan to catch any oil drips.

5. Remove the tip of a 1-oz. SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) 10, non-detergent oil tube with a pair of scissors or utility knife.

6. Insert the tip of the oil tube into the oil reservoir located on top of the Hunter ceiling fan. Allow the oil to pour from the tube and into the reservoir for one minute. Recheck the oil level in the Hunter fan with the pipe cleaner. Continue to add oil until the pipe cleaner touches the oil in the reservoir.
