The easiest way to install a new ceiling fan is to replace an old one.
Ceiling fans cool a room in the summer, distribute heat in the winter and add to your home decor. If an old one wears out, it's worth it to replace it with another. Installing a new fan in place of an old one is easier than any other type of fan installation, because you already have the proper power, clearance and a strong enough ceiling electrical box.
Instructions
1. Cut power to the room at the house fuse box. Remove the existing ceiling fan by unscrewing the mounting screws. Pull it down from the ceiling, and disconnect the wires from the ceiling electrical box.
2. Install the mounting bracket from your replacement fan kit. The mounting bracket will be a metal piece with a large hole in the middle and screw holes around the edges that line up with the screw holes of the electrical box. Let the wires from the electrical box hang down through the center of the bracket.
3. Position the fan motor housing (without the blades) on top of the ladder, as close as possible to the electrical box. Connect the black wire from the fan to the black wire from the electrical box, using the screw-on wire caps. Wrap the cap in electrician's tape. Do the same for the white wires from the fan and the box.
4. Wrap the bare ground wire from the electrical box around the green ground screw that's inside the fan unit. Tighten the screw.
5. Lift and press the fan unit to the bracket that's attached to the electrical box. Attach the fan unit to the box with the provided screws.
6. Turn on the power at the fuse box to test the fan. Attach the fan blades if it's working correctly, following the instructions in the kit.
