Mount A Casablanca 41u45d Ceiling Fan

Replacing a ceiling fan or a ceiling light fixture with a Casablanca 41U45D ceiling fan is one way to update the look and functionality of a room. The basic 41U45D does not include a light fixture, however you can add one if you desire. Mounting a Casablanca 41U45D ceiling fan is a bit different than standard ceiling fans. The 41U45D has a downrod that spaces the main fan motor away from the ceiling. The 41U45D also has a separate switch housing that attaches to the bottom of the motor.

Instructions

Install Fan Motor

1. Check to make sure the circuit breaker to the junction box is in the "Off" position. Set up a stepladder of the correct height under the junction box so you are able to reach the box without stretching.

2. Loosen the set screw on the side of motor coupling with a hex wrench. The motor coupling is on top of the fan housing and is where the downrod installs. Pull the ends of the wires from the top of the motor coupling through the downrod and the ball at the top of the downrod.

3. Thread the downrod into the center of the motor coupling until it is tight. Tighten the set screw on the side of the motor coupling with the hex wrench.

4. Line up the mounting holes of the ceiling bracket with the holes on the junction box in the ceiling. Secure the bracket to the junction box with the bracket threaded screws. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the ends of the house wires through the center of the mounting bracket. There is a pre-installed green ground wire on the mounting bracket.

5. Align the Casablanca ceiling fan canopy mounting holes with the mounting holes on the ceiling bracket. Feed the house wires through the open panel of the canopy. Secure the canopy to the ceiling bracket with the three retaining screws and Phillips screwdriver.

6. Pick up the ceiling fan motor housing by the downrod. Insert the downrod ball into the open side of the canopy, aligning the slot on the side of the ball with the pin on the inside circumference of the canopy.

Wire Fan Motor

7. Strip 1/4-inch of insulation from each of the house wires with wire strippers. Attach the ends of like colored ceiling and fan motor wires together with wire nuts. Twist the wire nuts clockwise until tight. Tug on the wires to ensure the wire nuts are secure.

8. Push the wires into the canopy and slide the access panel into the grooves of the canopy. If necessary, rotate the ball to align the groove with the pin.

9. Tilt the motor housing away from the access panel and insert the retaining screws through the bottom of the access panel. Tighten the screw with a Phillips screwdriver and slowly release the motor housing.

Install Blades

10. Find the top of each fan blade. One side is a different shade than the other. Choose which side you want to show and make the other side the top. When installing the blade holders, be sure that the same shade of color is facing upward.

11. Insert the holes on each fan blade over the pins on each blade holder. Thread the retaining screws through the top of the blade and into the holders. Tighten with the Phillips screwdriver.

12. Remove the packing blocks from the bottom of the motor housing where the blades attach with the screwdriver. Position the blade holders over the mounting holes under the motor housing and secure them with the retaining screws. Tighten all screws with the screwdriver.

Install Switch Housing

13. Turn the switch housing upside down so the bottom is facing you. Remove the two screws securing the cap to the housing with the screwdriver. Pull the cap off the housing. Look for the three switch housing mounting screws near the bottom center of the motor housing around the wire connector. Install two screws into the two mounting holes that are side by side. Thread the screws until only 1/8-inch of the screw threads are visible.

14. Pull the connector slightly to pull the wire through the center of the motor housing. Insert the connector through the top of the switch housing. Push the connector into the connector in the switch housing until the lock in place.

15. Position the keyholes on the top of the switch housing over the heads of the two mounting screws. Rotate the switch housing clockwise until it stops. The third mounting hole should be visible from inside the switch housing. Install a screw through the mounting hole and tighten all three with the Phillips screwdriver.

16. Push the cap into the switch housing and secure with the two retaining screws. Turn on the circuit breaker to power the Casablanca fan.
