Remodel A Kitchen Ceiling

Remodeling your kitchen ceiling creates a new look and feel to the room.

It's time to spice up the boring, white kitchen ceiling. Many homeowners' forget to remodel their ceilings when redoing their kitchens. White ceilings do not have any character or design. Instead of having a white ceiling in your kitchen, remodeling the ceiling will help to emphasize the beauty of your kitchen. Remodeling your ceiling creates an elegant look and feel to your kitchen. Ceilings painted in a color become noticed by everyone who enters a home.

Instructions

1. Select different colored paint swatches from your home improvement or paint store. Ceiling paint comes in a variety of colors. Bring the swatches home and tape them to your ceiling. This allows you to see what the paint colors look like in your home compared to the store.

2. Select a paint color from the taped swatches on your ceiling. When selecting your paint color, choose one to emphasize your accent color in the kitchen. For example, if your tablecloth has the color rose in it, select a rose or beige ceiling color.

3. Measure all four walls on your ceiling with your tape measure. Bring these measurements with you and purchase ceiling molding. Have your home improvement center cut the molding to your specific measurements.

4. Lay plastic over your appliances, countertop and cabinets in your kitchen. This prevents paint from being accidentally splattered on those items.

5. Paint your kitchen ceiling. Open, mix and pour some ceiling paint into the paint tray. Roll the paint roller in the tray and apply the paint to the ceiling. Paint the edges with your paintbrush. Use a ladder or step stool to reach them. Apply a second coat of paint once the first coat has thoroughly dried. Allow the ceiling paint to dry before moving onto the next step.

6. Install your kitchen ceiling molding. Hold the molding in place by hand and gently secure with finishing nails and your hammer. Repeat for your entire kitchen ceiling molding.

7. Apply wood putty over the nails in the ceiling molding by wetting your finger and gently pressing it in place. This covers the indent in the molding. Select wood molding to match the color of the ceiling molding. Allow the wood putty to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

8. Sand the wood putty on the ceiling molding until it's smooth and flush with the molding.
