Install A Hampton Bay Landmark Ceiling Fan

A screwdriver is one of the tools you will need to install a ceiling fan.

You install a Hampton Bay Landmark ceiling fan the same way you would install any other ceiling fan. The electrical box in the ceiling where the fan is being installed will have a hot wire, a neutral wire and possibly a ground wire. Attaching the proper wires from the ceiling to their corresponding wires in the ceiling fan is not as complicated as it may seem. All the materials you need to install the fan come with it, so all you need is a few basic tools.

Instructions

1. Turn off the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the box where you're installing the fan.

2. Remove the fan and all its parts from the box and lay them out on the floor in an orderly fashion. You should have the main fan housing, the blades and one or two bags of screws and other parts.

3. Pull the wires out of the electrical box in the ceiling so that you can access them easily. There should be a black or red wire, a white wire and a bare wire. These wires are the hot, neutral and ground, respectively.

4. Locate the wires on the ceiling fan that correspond to the wires in the ceiling. The wires are colored black, white and green. Sometimes the ground wire may be yellow instead of green, and the hot wire may be colored red instead of black.

5. Hold the fan housing to the ceiling and use a pencil to mark where the screw holes in the housing are located. Set the housing on the floor. Drill holes in the ceiling where you placed the marks, using a drill and a 1/4-inch drill bit. Insert the anchors that came with the fan in the holes and make sure they are flush with the surface of the ceiling.

6. Hold the main fan housing up to the electrical box so you can connect the wires. Have another person hold up the fan housing while you connect the wires.

7. Pull off an inch or so of insulation from the wires on the fan housing where they have been cut by the manufacturer. Twist the wires from the fan housing together with their corresponding wires from the electrical box. Screw a wire nut (provided with the fan) onto each pair of wires.

8. Insert the longer screws that came with the fan through the screw holes in the fan housing and into the anchors in the ceiling. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

9. Install the fan blades with the screws provided and turn on the circuit breaker.
