Install Pot Racks

Pot racks add architectural interest to any kitchen and are a fantastic space-saving tool. Before you decide to invest in one, measure to make sure your kitchen ceiling is high enough to accommodate the rack with hanging pots while leaving room underneath for people to walk. Then decide where to put it. Most often, the best places for pot racks are in areas that see little or no foot traffic, such as above a center island. Follow a few simple steps to install your new pot rack.

Instructions

1. Find the ceiling joists. Use the stud finder to locate the joists and mark the spots with a pencil.

2. Measure the distance between joists. This helps you determine what size pot rack you should buy. The larger the distance between joists, the larger the pot rack you will need to purchase.

3. Mark the pot rack measurements. Using a tape measure, measure the length and width of the pot rack on the ceiling in the area where you marked the location of the floor joists.

4. Drill pilot holes, or starter holes. Drill the number of pilot holes in the ceiling according to how many ceiling hangers your pot rack needs. Be sure to use a drill bit smaller than the size of the eye hooks you purchased.

5. Screw in eye hooks. This is done by hand. Make sure you screw the hooks in deep enough so the screw threads are not visible.

6. Attach to the ceiling. Using the ceiling hangers that came with the pot rack, lift it up and hook the ceiling hooks attached to the rack, through the eye hooks you installed in the ceiling.
