Mount Lace Fans

Lace fans are both useful and decorative.

Lace fans were essential fashion accessories in Victorian times. They were used as cooling instruments and also as communication devices by means of a secret code consisting of different flutters of the wrist. Today, lace fans are collected and displayed in the home. Arrange smaller fans in a cluster or mount a large fan on an open wall to showcase your collection.

Instructions

1. Hold the fan in front of you with the pivot screw toward the bottom.

2. Open your fan to display the image on the leaf.

Unfold the fan by twisting the slats or spines, which are often bamboo or plastic, in a clockwise direction, just far enough to show the design without causing noticeable stress to the folds.

3. Double-sided tape sticks to the fan and to the wall.

Cut four pieces of 2 to 3 inch double-sided tape.

4. Apply the tape to eight different places on the back side of the fan's slats.

5. Place the fan in position on the wall.

6. Press each spine to the wall with gentle pressure.

7. Use a decorative thumb tack to help secure the fan without damaging it.

Place a single nail or decorative thumb tack into the wall just below the bottom of the fan. The weight of the fan rests on the nail and supports its weight.
