A Brace For Installing A Ceiling Fan

A ceiling fan with a light can bring a level of comfort to a room without sacrificing your lighting. One of the first steps in installing a ceiling fan is to install a brace to keep the fan secure.

Instructions

1. Read the directions that come with your fan. The instructions that come with your package and/or the advice of an electrician should supersede any direction you find herein.

2. Turn off the power to the area in which you are working.

3. Remove the existing fixture and disconnect the wiring.

4. If possible, you should install a 2x4 between the ceiling joists to support the workbox and the weight of the fan. This can be done from the attic.

5. If not possible, then install a metal brace from the room below through the hole from the fixture. The workbox should then be attached to the brace.
