Remove Stains From Drop Ceiling Tiles

Drop ceiling tiles are generally lightweight, absorbent tiles that are mounted into a metal framing system. Since drop tiles are not sealed, they have no protection from stains, which can occur due to leaks in the roof or ceiling. Since the tiles are lightweight and fragile, they can be difficult to clean when stains occur. If you need to remove stains from drop ceiling tiles, a few methods can help you.

Instructions

1. Remove the tile from the ceiling. To remove a drop tile from the metal framework, push the tile up into the space above the ceiling, tilt the tile upward and angle the tile so that you can pull it out of the hole diagonally.

2. Brush dust and loose dirt from the tile before attempting to remove the stain. Use a duster or soft cloth to gently brush across the tile's surface.

3. Rub a dry cleaning sponge across the surface of the stain gently until the stain is completely gone. Do not press too hard with the sponge, because the tile is fragile and can be easily cracked.

4. Wipe the stain with bleach. Do not use too much liquid, which can damage the tile instead of removing the stain. Instead, just moisten a cotton ball or rag with bleach and dab gently at the stain.

5. Paint over the stained area if neither the dry sponge nor the bleach works to remove the stain. Get paint that matches the color of the ceiling tile and use a foam sponge to lightly dab the paint onto the stain.
