Makeup contains pigments and oils that cause stains on cottton clothing.
Makeup is used by women and in theater productions to enhance or alter a person's appearance. Many types of makeup contain oil in them because the oil helps the makeup adhere to the skin and last longer. When makeup gets on your cotton clothing the oil that helps makeup stay on your face longer causes a makeup stain on your clothing. For the easiest removal, tend to makeup stains as soon after they occur as possible.
Instructions
1. Place a slice of white bread on the site of the makeup stain on your clothing. Push the white bread into the stain and allow it to absorb the oil from the makeup while you collect your other cleansing supplies. Prior to removing the slice of white bread, gently rub it against the makeup stain on your clothing.
2. White shaving cream is useful in removing many laundry stains.
Squirt white foam shaving cream on the makeup stain on your cotton clothing. Avoid using the gel kind of shaving cream as it may contain dyes that will stain your cotton clothing. Allow the shaving cream to sit on the stain for a couple minutes, then dab at it with a clean, damp cloth.
3. Rinse your cotton clothing with club soda. Club soda is a natural stain remover so as it rinses away the shaving cream it also works at the stain.
4. Pour a little pre-wash stain remover onto any remnants of makeup stain on your cotton clothing. Rub the fabric together to work the pre-wash into the fibers. Allow the garment to sit for 15 minutes.
5. Launder your cotton clothing in the hottest water allowed for your cotton clothing. Add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to cut any traces of oil or grease left by the makeup. Ensure the makeup stain is fully removed before placing your cotton clothing in the dryer.
