Nails for Vinyl Siding?
Hello, I'm going to be siding my house soon in Vynil and was types of nails to consider using. I'll be going through 1/2 of foam insulation and 1 of sheathing, but I'm most interested in the diameter recommended. I've got a Bostitch N88RH nailer that I'd prefer to use on this job if I can. Thanks! roofing nails (large heads) but I don;t think a nailer is overly successful in applying siding. Part of the installation is to NOT nail the siding solid. It has to be able to float across the nails as the temps cause it to expand and contract. That is why the slotted hole in the siding for the fastener. Unless you can adjust the nailer to allow for a very soft set nail, you are going to have a lot of warping when things warm up. Nailing up siding is pretty easy using roofing nails although you can buy nails specifically designed for vinyl siding. I've never seen anyone atempt to use a nailer to install vinyl siding for the reasons Nap gave. I have seen vinyl nailed with a roofing nailer but it had a special tip and was adjustable. I personaly have always hand nailed so I can adjust the siding in and out on remodle jobs
