To minimize the effort required to clean an oven, some Hotpoint ranges come with a self-cleaning feature. The self-cleaning option on an oven turns stubborn stains and spills into ash that is easy to clean by wiping the surface of the oven interior. A Hotpoint Self Cleaning Oven should be cleaned regularly to provide optimal performance and enjoyment.
Preparation
A few simple steps are required before using the self-cleaning option on your Hotpoint oven. First, remove the oven racks, pans, accessories and foil from the oven. The self-cleaning cycle can produce smoke or fumes so adequate ventilation is recommended. To minimize fumes, open a kitchen window or run the ventilation fan.
Remove any dirt or stains from the front of the oven by scrubbing with a sponge or scrub pad with hot, soapy water. To minimize excess smoke, wipe the bottom of the oven so it is free of heavy debris. To prevent damage to the oven's interior coating, avoid using commercial cleaners that are not approved for self-cleaning ovens.
Check to make sure the oven light cover is in place and the oven light is off. Once you have completed these steps, you are ready to use the self-cleaning feature.
Cleaning the Oven
First, latch the door shut by sliding the latch on the oven door to the right. This will prevent accidental opening of the door while the self-cleaning cycle is in operation. For ovens with knob controls, turn the oven temperature knob to Clean. Touch-control ovens feature a self-clean pad that starts the self-cleaning cycle once pressed.
The self-cleaning cycle takes four hours and twenty minutes. The self-clean light will remain on during the cleaning cycle. The oven will shut off once the cycle is complete. After the cleaning is done, turn the oven temperature knob to the Off position.
If you need to cancel the self-cleaning operation, turn the oven temperature knob to the Off position. Wait until the self-cleaning light stops blinking to open the oven. After the oven has cooled, unlatch the oven door by sliding the latch to the left. You will not be able to move the latch until the oven has cooled completely.
To finish cleaning the oven, wipe the interior of the oven with a damp cloth. If stains remain, a soap-filled scrub pad can be used to remove the stain. Rinse the oven surface with a mixture of water and vinegar as instructed in the owner's manual. Repeat the self-cleaning cycle if you are not satisfied with the oven after the first cycle.
