Dating back to the mid-1800s, Anheuser-Busch Companies, which makes Budweiser, has an extensive history with alcohol products that have a global reach. As a Anheuser-Busch truck driver you'd be responsible for not only delivering this name-brand beverage but also acting as a company representative to all of the various retailers of the brand.
The Work
If you are a truck driver for Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch will require you to be more than just a driver. You will also be required to lift, load, unload and move products weighing up to 165 lbs. using hand trucks and pallet jacks. Since you will be in charge of representing the company to its retailers, customer service skills and proficient English are required as well--verbal and written skills.
According to SimplyHired.com, a posting for a Budweiser truck driver lists four primary job duties:
1. Drive commercial delivery trucks, vans and/or tractor-trailer combinations to deliver product.
2. Build strong partnerships with retailers by delivering product in a timely and efficient manner, and rotating product as necessary to ensure freshness.
3. Complete and turn in all company paperwork, invoices, display forms, load sheets, and cash/checks within appropriate time frames.
4. Ensure accurate completion of Department of Transportation checklist and report maintenance problems and accidents in a timely manner.
Salary
According to Anheuser-Busch, truck driver salaries vary depending on the state and the distributor that's transporting the products. However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that, on average, the salary for a delivery truck driver nationwide is $30,260 per year. It also recorded that the average hourly wage for a delivery truck driver is $14.55 per hour.
Salary by State
Because wage is dependent on the state you will be working in, it is important to note what states pay the most in terms of wages. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the five states that yield the biggest return for this profession. Alaska gets top marks with an average annual salary of $35,670 per year. Massachusetts is next, coming in at $33,760 per year; while New York is the third-highest-paying state at $33,640 per year. The last two states to hit the chart are the District of Columbia at $33,640 per year and Nevada at $33,250 per year.
Employment by State
Looking at the job through an occupational angle, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the five states with the most truck delivery drivers. The states, starting with the highest concentration of drivers, are Montana at $26,630 per year, Utah at $25,130 per year, Louisiana at $26,530 per year, Georgia at $30,230 per year and finally New Mexico at $27,820 per year.
Job Outlook
The Bureau of Labor reports that the job growth for delivery drivers isn't as promising as most careers. It estimates that employment will rise by only 8 percent from 2006 to 2016, 3 percentage points less than the national average for employment growth. Largely, it says that this is due to the fact that job opportunities vary from year to year depending upon the output of the economy. If demand is high for retail products then drivers will also be in demand; however, that also means when demand is low it adversely affects drivers.
