Epsom salts are a great addition to baths and soaks when you are suffering from muscle pain. They also can be used with herbs to create a soothing poultice for tired or sore muscles. An Epsom and herb poultice is a great way to relax at any time, but it can be especially useful after a hard workout or sporting event.
Instructions
1. Place lavender and Epsom salts into the pot, and add 1/2 cup of water. Heat the entire mixture until it has the consistency of paste.
2. Lay out two strips of fabric one on top of the other to make a double-layer bandage for the affected area.
3. Spread the Epsom and lavender mixture on the fabric strips, allowing enough area to cover the wound or injury.
4. Place the treated strips on the injury, and use the third strip to tie the poultice in place. If you are wearing the poultice to bed, use additional fabric or clothing to protect bedclothes.
5. Repeat as needed.
Tips Warnings
For larger areas, double or triple the recipe. You also can make a larger amount and save some in the refrigerator for a week or so. Warm it again before application.
Lavender is used in this recipe for its calming properties, but other herbs can be just as useful.
