Create A Breeze With A Fan

A ceiling fan is one option to create a breeze.

When the weather gets hot, one thing that homeowners do is turn on the air conditioning. Whether you have a window air conditioner in a small space or a whole-house central air conditioning system, this is an effective method for cooling down your home. However, if you don't have an air conditioner, you might be at a loss for what to do during the hot, humid months of the summer. In this case, you can create a refreshing breeze within your home and drop the temperature significantly using fans.

Instructions

1. Install a ceiling fan in the center of the room where you want to create the breeze. You'll need to pick the appropriate size. A 225- to 400-square-foot space needs a ceiling fan with a 52-inch diameter. Smaller spaces of 144 to 225 square feet only require a fan with a 42- or 44-inch diameter.

2. Use window fans on the coolest side of your home, or the side that has the most shade and the least sun. This brings in cool air to create a comfortable breeze.

3. Choose window fans for your windows that fit as snugly as possible. Cover gaps between the window frame and the fan with cardboard for more effective breeze creation.

4. Run your window fans in the mornings, evenings and at night when the air outside is cooler.

5. Open up all the doors in your home that lead from room to room. This allows the breeze being brought in by the fans to move freely.
