Kilz Spray Paint Instructions

Kilz is a time-tested primer paint that comes in water- and oil-based formulas. Applied before you paint, Kilz hides water stains, graffiti, crayon marks and other discolorations from wood, metal and masonry. If you find that you have difficulty reaching an area with a brush, Kilz Upshot spray paint may be exactly what you need. The spray formula is the same as the oil-based variety sold in a can. Kilz spray paint also comes in a variety of colors, useful for graffiti artists and those looking to complete a project with one coat.

Instructions

1. Use a paint scraper to scrape off any flakes or chips from the object you wish to paint. For wood projects, sand the surface to a scuffed finish using 80-to-120-grit sandpaper to ensure adhesion.

2. Clean the surface you wish to paint. If it is covered in dirt or grease, wash it with a non-sudsing detergent or trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleanser. Rinse it well with water and allow the surface to dry thoroughly.

3. Put on work gloves to protect your hands and goggles to protect your eyes. Shake the can of Kilz spray paint vigorously for at least one minute to ensure thorough mixing.

4. Hold the can of Kilz spray paint upright, approximately 1 foot from the object you're painting, and spray from side to side.

5. Paint the object with long, quick strokes. You will achieve a smoother finish with minimal runs if you apply two to three light coats.
