Brace My Ceiling To Hang A Hammock Chair

A hammock chair, unlike a traditional hammock, is only supported at one end. The chair hangs from a single hook in the ceiling. When installed inside, the hammock chair must be screwed into an element strong enough to support it. Drywall, by itself, is too flimsy to support a hammock chair. The joists above it are stronger and more desirable to support the weight of the chair and any person that sits in it.

Instructions

Joist

1. Place a stud finder flat on the ceiling. Move it from left to right until a joist is located in the area where you want to hang the hammock chair. Use the stud finder to pinpoint the center of the joist. Mark this area with a pencil.

2. Pre-drill a 5-inch-deep hole into the joist with an electric drill and wood drill bit.

3. Twist an eye bolt into the pre-drilled hole with your hand until all threads have disappeared. Then attach the rest of the hammock chair assembly to the hook on the eye bolt.
