Quiet Your Air Conditioner

Don't let a noisy air conditioner disrupt your life.

A noisy air conditioner is annoying, but when heat and humidity are high the machines are lifesavers, sometimes literally. The most common noise emitted by air conditioners is a buzzing or rattling sound that can be quite grating on the nerves. You will be relieved to hear, that shutting off the machine is not the only way to get peace and quiet. Locate the source of the problem in your air conditioner and you're on your way to a more relaxing summer.

Instructions

1. Tighten the screws on your air conditioner casing with a screwdriver. Loose or out-of-place screws are a common cause of noisy rattling on an air conditioner.

2. Check the pad or windowsill on which the air conditioner is resting with a level. An air conditioner needs to be on a smooth, level surface. If not, then the air conditioner could be making a loud rattling sound. This often happens if the surface the air conditioner is resting on is not completely smooth.

3. Lift the air conditioner up with a friend or family member. Insert a rolled-up newspaper between one of the corners of the air conditioner and the pad it is resting on to make it stand evenly on its support. Lay a level on the top of the air conditioning unit to ensure it is sitting level.
